My new niece Maria Elena Mendez-Valencia was born a few days ago, on December 29th, 2012 at 9:18 pm. She was 7.8 lbs and 18.5 inches long - healthy and beautiful! I had sent Cathy a text message earlier that day, asking if she was still pregnant (it was her due date according to a second ultrasound). She said yes, with no indication that baby was coming. When we went to visit her a couple days later, she said she started having contractions around 5 pm the evening after I texted her and then everything went very quickly after that. Her 4th baby!

Can't help but appreciate this photo of Maria - she wants to go back into that warm belly of mamas I bet.

While we were there, on the 5th floor of the hospital in Salmon Creek visiting with Cathy and Maria, we noticed snow flakes began to fall outside. They got bigger and began falling faster. Before we knew it, there was a thick blanket of white snow covering the ground.
We had big plans to build a snowman and make snow angels when we got home. Unfortunately, when we got home, there was little to no sign of snow. Somehow, there was just a little pocket of snow fall in that area of town.
