Esperanza has lots of fun new activities that she is part of! The beginning of September, she began taking a dance class which incorporates ballet, tap and tumbling. As you can imagine, she absolutely loves it! We also began a routine schedule with a good friend of mine who offered to help teach Esperanza how to knit. We meet with her twice a month for an hour or two. In addition to knitting, we will be doing some other fun crafts together as well. We stumbled upon a music class offered in our neighborhood recently too. It's called Music Together. Once a week, Ezra, Esperanza and I walk a half a block to the Camas Community Center where we join a group of other kids and mamas in a music class lead by a nice young Chinese woman with a real appreciation for what she does. We will be learning how to incorporate music and rhythm into our lives more over the next several weeks and are very excited.
During our first music session at the community center, the teacher had a small guitar. Esperanza expressed a huge interest in learning how to play the guitar after she heard what it can do. I can't help but be lead by her interests in deciding what I should focus on in our 'schooling'. Knowing little to nothing myself about musical instruments, we all took a trip to the local music/instrument store to take a look. Esperanza settled on the Ukulele, (which is just her size!) as her first instrument she would like to have and learn to play. She got to look at several different ones, hold them and try them out. There were pink ones, purple ones and even rainbow colored ones. She was in love. Fortunately, Ukulele's can be affordable, more affordable than most other instruments. Unfortunately, it still isn't something we can afford right at the moment. Especially after I just forked out my entire budget towards dance and music lessons. I assume with a new musical instrument will also come new musical instrument lessons too! Oh, and Ezra wants an African drum.
