Costa Rica - Day 1

January 10, 2015 - leave Portland
January 11, 2015 - arrive in San Jose, Costa Rica

Day 1 in Costa Rica

Our big family adventure began with a red-eye flight from Portland, OR to San Jose, Costa Rica, with one stop in between. The flight was, as expected, horrible. The plane was packed, no one could sleep and we were all beyond exhausted by the time we landed. Somehow we made it through customs, got our luggage and took a bus to the car rental place where we spent the next couple of hours haggling with by a car rental company where we thought we had a solid price for a rental. Eventually we left and found a different hassle free rental car company, got our car and headed on our way.

We found our hotel, but couldn't check in until later in the afternoon. We hit up a farmers market, got some fruit and then drove around for a couple of hours to get acquainted with the area. Back at the hotel we were able to use the pool and relax for a bit while they got our room ready. We spent the rest of the day being lazy and tired, watched tv got some sleep.
The next morning (Day 2), we sat outside our hotel room, poolside, with coffee and snacks I had packed and mapped out the first leg of our adventure while watching the kids swim in the amazing pool under the beautiful sunshine.
On the way out of the city, we stopped at a taco bar that had swings instead of barstools at the table. It was so unique and fun, plus the tacos were pretty good too. After lunch, we loaded ourselves back into the car and drove to Manuel Antonio.
